Jon Shepard, Ph.D., LSSP
Licensed Psychologist
“I believe that each of us has something very unique and important to contribute. As a psychologist, my goal is to support clients in gaining self-understanding, defining personal goals, developing skills, and overcoming obstacles. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to witness clients tap in to their innate strengths and abilities and accomplish great things.”
Major Practice Areas:

Training and Experience:

Dr. Shepard has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology earned in 2004 at Oklahoma State University. He is a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology in Texas. Dr. Shepard’s areas of special training and expertise include assessing and treating emotional and behavioral concerns with children and adolescents. Most of his clinical experience has been assessing and/or treating children with developmental delays, autism, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, and oppositional behaviors.

Aside from practicing with Dr. Goodness and Associates, Dr. Shepard has worked 5 years as a School Psychologist in Texas with experience in the Grapevine-Colleyville and Denton school districts. Dr. Shepard completed his predoctoral internship at the Oklahoma Health Consortium where he completed rotations at the Norman Child Guidance Center, Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital, and Oklahoma City Public Schools. He also has two years of experience as a master’s level therapist at Youth Villages in Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee where he was a home-based therapist for teens with emotional and behavioral problems.

Clinical Approach and Goals:

Dr. Shepard’s approach to assessment and treatment looks at the whole person, including strengths and weaknesses, as well as familial, cultural, and social factors that influence a person’s functioning. He believes in a strengths-based approach that helps parents formulate the right questions in order to find useful solutions. In therapy, he uses a solution-focused approach with adolescents. Dr. Shepard also provides social skills training from a cognitive-behavioral orientation to address the social competence needs of children and adolescents. As part of treatment, he may suggest that you consult with a physical health care provider regarding somatic treatments that could help your problems and may also suggest that you get involved in a therapy or support group as part of your work with him. You will always have the right to refuse anything that he suggests without being penalized in any way.
